Hoping for a TEST call, says Hussey

David Hussey

Australia batsman David Hussey is hoping his impressive limited-overs form will lead to a maiden Test call-up.

Hussey, 34, was in sizzling touch at the MCG on Sunday in Australia's rain-affected 65-run win over India, cracking an unbeaten 61 from just 30 balls.

That, coupled with his excellent Big Bash League campaign with the Melbourne Stars where he averaged 40.50, has him believing a belated Test nod could be coming his way.

"My body's healthy, touch wood - I'm batting as well as I ever have so hopefully that does continue," Hussey said.

"I still feel as fresh as ever and I love playing the game so I want to keep going.

"Playing for Australia is the pinnacle and I still harbour hopes of playing Test cricket. If I do well in the one-day arena you never know, some doors may open."

Australia take on Sri Lanka at the WACA on Sunday in their second match of the triangular one-day international series, and Hussey said the Sri Lankans would be a stern test for the home side.

"It is another challenge," he said. "We played very well Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening.

"(But) playing in Perth, it's different conditions, a different wicket and against a different team, so we must be tip-top and hopefully we continue our good form.

"I know a little bit about the Sri Lankan team, I saw the Victorian seconds play them a couple of weeks or a week ago and the Vic seconds beat them which was nice.

"They're an unpredictable team, they're full of match winners and they rely heavily on (fast bowler Lasith) Malinga and their spinners. We have to be at the height of our game in order to win."

Although there has been debate in recent years on the viability of the triangular series concept, Hussey is an acknowledged fan of the format, and is hopeful it can continue for many more summers to come.

"I love the triangular series, growing up I used to love watching Australia play in the triangular series, and the opposition teams," Hussey said.

"I used to love watching the West Indies play India, the West Indies play England. It was just a fantastic concept and hopefully the triangular series is here to stay."
