Profile

Ellis Park was a rugby ground but was pressed into service when the Old Wanderers was demolished at the end of the 1945-46 season to make way for a railway. Over the next decade, Ellis Park staged Transvaal matches and Tests. The completion of the New Wanderers ground in 1956-57 signalled the end of Ellis Park as a cricket venue. The present ground was built in 1980 and has no reminders of its time as a cricket venue.
